DEF CON 32 Go Bag
Preparing for DEF CON 32 in Las Vegas, NV
I'm getting together my "Go Bag" for DEF CON and decided to do a write-up of many of the items I'm bringing. Mostly so that when I see people doing cool things I can try and learn from them - but also to share with people who don't have access to the tools as readily.
Sharing is caring. – Everyone from my childhood
The Packing List (so far)
A non-exhaustive list of items I'm planning on bringing to DEF CON 32 this year (still hoping it's not cancelled.)
- My DEF CON 31 paper badge for trade-up
- Stainless-Steel, Bright-Red 64oz Canteen
- Flipper Zero w/ silicone sleeve
- Developer Board for Flipper Zero, Wi-Fi enabled
- GrapheneOS Pixel 7 Pro w/ NFTools
- Nikola T. Lab iCopy-XS 256MB + 16GB
- Various lock picks, rakes, turning tools, and bypass from Covert Instruments, TOOOL, Sparrows, and more.
- Sparrows Practice Combination Safe
- Freshly-imaged Linux Mint Laptop w/ LibreChat.AI and llama3
- A drive caddy and cloner, various cables/connectors
- A Firewalla Purple
- A 4-port network switch
- OpenWRT GL.iNet Wi-Fi 6 device
To get things started, I'll cross the first two off our list so we can spend some time talking about the others more in-depth.
DEF CON 31 Paper Badge
Looking forward to getting my hands on a real badge from DEF CON 31. Apparently, they must have been running out while I was in linecon so they ended up giving me the paper badge - but with the plastic SAO piece for the real badges.
I felt dumb that I couldn't like...make them fit perfectly. Turns out they weren't supposed to.
Stainless-Steel, Bright-Red 64oz Canteen
It's Las Vegas, in August, among some of the hottest temperatures ever recorded in the area. Everyone is going to need stay hydrated, inside or outside.
I'm using the Iron Flask 64 oz Wide Mouth Water Bottle with Straw Lid. I got it during COVID lock-down - to try and stay hydrated - and it's been a great companion in the heat.
You don't need to use this specific one, but you should be bringing a refillable bottle to help stay hydrated.
Next Up: Flipper Zero + Dev Board
As part of the go-bag series, we'll focus on the Flipper Zero next and some of the cool things we might be able to learn while there.
Honestly, I've underutilized my Flipper and need to get some hands on time with it at the show this year - around people who know what they are doing!
